Safety Signal: Location-Sharing for Safer Dating

Eyes meet. You wave across the bar. A smile. A dimple peeks out to say hello. And when you grin back, your shoulders drop a little because you’ve activated Safety Signal.

Through PURE’s Safety Signal, you can share your location and date info with a trusted contact (bestie, favorite cousin, whoever) each time you take a connection offline.

Safety Signal gives you:

  • Peace of mind: So you can focus on enjoying your date, knowing someone is aware of the plan.
  • Social support: If something unexpected happens, a trusted contact is aware of your location and can be there to help you if needed.
  • Intuitive design: Sharing is built into the app and works on any device.
Why PURE Created Safety Signal

Research consistently shows that safety concerns (especially for women and LGBTQ+ daters) create hesitation around meeting a date in person.

According to a DatingNews.com survey, 91% of single women in the U.S. worry about their safety when going on dates. In a survey of around 600 female daters on PURE, 66% said they prefer to share their location with someone during a date.

Safety Signal directly addresses these fears and preexisting habits.

"Meeting someone new should feel exciting. Nowadays, safety fears might keep great connections in the chat window. Safety Signal changes the dating equation: it's the safety net that helps people say yes to possibility."
– Vicki Rool, Head of Trust & Safety at Pure

How Safety Signal Works

Safety Signal helps you feel safer when the digital goes analog. Here’s how to use it.

  • Activate before your date: enable Safety Signal when you’re ready to meet someone from PURE.
  • Share with anyone: PURE generates a passcode-protected link that can be sent to any trusted contact via text, email, or messaging app (no PURE account required).
  • Real-time visibility: The trusted contact opens the link in any browser to see your last known location on a map, the date's photos from their PURE profile (if available), and the session duration.
  • Automatic privacy: Safety Signal runs quietly in the background for the selected time period, then automatically ends.
  • Transparent by design: To keep it honest and respectful, dates receive a notification when Safety Signal is activated.
